Happy New Year from The Young Businessman!

I wanted to do a roundup for my blog since September 2008, but my flesh is not willing.

I just want to thank everyone for all the time that they have taken to help make The Young Businessman a better place to read and explore especially those blog posts that appeared in "Startup of the Week" and "Video of the Week".

I promise that 2009 will be a better year yet for this blog because there are so many things that I want to roll out and initiate. But unfortunately, there is only so much that I can take as a step, so please do patient with me as I prepare "only the good stuff" for all my readers.

Indeed 2008 had been a very busy year for all with so many things happening, hearing bad news after bad news. I personally believe that 2009 will be a greater year yet especially in the area of which I am heading towards. Like what Warren Buffet said in a quote:
"We simply attempt to be fearful when others are greedy and to be greedy only when others are fearful.”

I see opportunities, not obstacles! :) !!

Every good year should end with this song: Auld Lang Syne (Electric Guitar Version)!

Yes, I'm a Singaporean! Are you?

Yes, I am proud to be a Singaporean.

What makes me a Singaporean?

  1. I speak English, Chinese, Singlish and a bit of Malay.

  2. I have Malay, Chinese, Indian, and Caucasian buddies, of whom I can count on in times of need.

  3. I love Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, and Christmas the most because I get to collect different types of festive packages eg. Red and green packets.

  4. I am an open minded person, respecting all religions practiced in Singapore.

  5. I count Hainanese Chicken Rice, Nasi Lemak, Roti Prata and chilly crabs as my favourite local delicacies!

  6. I am a strong supporter of the local arts scene especially Singapore Arts Festival which is an annual event.

  7. I pay many fines too. Eg: National Library Board fines, Traffic summons etc.

  8. I know the history of Singapore well, way back from Sang Nila Utama to Sir Stamford Raffles to World War 2. I have also paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for Singapore on my blog here.

  9. I watched Under One Roof, Phua Chu Kang and Living with Lydia because they were probably one of the best local comedies ever produced. They have definitely kept me at the edge of my seat wanting for more laughs.

  10. I cannot live without a bottle of Maggi Mee brand Chilli Sauce for all my meals!

  11. I believe that I belong to a group of people that forever complain money is not enough!

  12. I try to schedule my meetings or my appointments to beat the ERP charges. Talk about being cheapskate!

  13. I occasionally queue up to help my parents every Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays to buy 4D. It is a bit unrealistic because the "banker" always win. While they decide to get rich through that route, I figure that by singing this tune, I might launch myself to stardom just like the fallen star, William Hung!
Personally I have certain Singaporean habits that are quite distinct.
  • Although Singapore has a very small consumer market, there are so many malls to visit to shop, making it one of many Singaporean's best past time. Whenever I travel abroad, I will definitely make it a point to go for shopping regardless of the price.

  • Whenever I am with a big group of people, I have no qualms using tissue paper to chope/reserve/book seats if it is necessary because that's what everyone is doing. It is extremely embarrassing but it's a national habit. But I'll emphasize that if time permits, I will still call the restaurant in advance to reserve the seats.

  • As you can see hor, I sometime lyk 2 type dis kind of msg n speak veri veri funnily. I tink every1 can _stand wat I m tokking abt. Like wat Phua Chu Kang always proclaim: DON'T PRAY PRAY (PLAY PLAY) AH! I try as much as to speak proper english but my singlish will automatically kick in when I am with my buddies because that's our unique communicating lingo.
I guess after saying so much, I am definitely an extraordinary Singaporean by name, by birth, and by choice! :D
